In March 2017, I and a team of DxE investigators came across a dying baby pig in the largest factory farm in the nation. With a grievously injured foot, and a serious respiratory infection, the piglet was destined for a slow and painful death. Nationwide, 14% of piglets do not make it out of the farrowing crate where they are born, with hypothermia, starvation, and crushing being the most common causes of death. This piglet should have been another in the tens of millions of baby pigs who die in horrific fashion.

Lily was an anomaly in this world. She got to live a brighter life, giving her humans a chance to show her love, and care. There is a pipeline of darkness in this world towards animals like lily, who “should have” perished in peril.
Lily contrasted this darkness, in a profound way.

We have to come together, stand up, take direct action and do something, so there can be more Lily’s.
Lily was an exception. But she doesn’t need to be. Not when there are so many kindhearted people in the world with the ability to do something about it.
RIP Lily. You will not be forgotten. May we avenge the unbearable lives and deaths of your mother, your other sisters and brothers, your aunts and uncles, grandparents and great grandparents and so on, cousins, nieces and nephews. May all of your souls be blessed beyond measure. Bless your sister Lizzy in her time of grief, and your human family. Thank you for being our teacher. Bless you on your spirit journey; may it be smooth, painless, and filled with love and peace and joy. Thank you for the love you gave to the world, and thank you Wayne and Paul and other rescuers for restoring to Lily and Lizzy their birthright. May we remember that every being is imbued with the capacity to love and to be loved, and that among other things, this too is stolen from them and turned into dollars. I cannot think of a worse crime. We will keep fighting for all of you, including those to come.

I have to ask if the caregivers took the ailing pig to see a vet. I hope she did not suffer and was humanely euthanized. Thank you again for everything you do to speak up for animals. 💜
